Primordial Sound Meditation
Peggy O'Hare
Primordial Sound Meditation
is a very ancient practice which has been revived by Dr Deepak
Chopra and Dr David Simon in such a way, that we in the West can
understand it.
We tend to think of meditation as a
programme for stress management. Stress is caused by encountering
obstacles to the fulfilment of our desires. The body responds to
stress by preparing to respond aggressively to a perceived threat.
This "fight/flight" response includes a number of physiological
changes including:
. Increased heart rate
. Increased blood pressure
. Increased breathing
. Increased stress hormone release
. Sweating
. Weakened immunity
. Clotting of blood platelets
During meditation, the body shifts
into a state of restful awareness in which we see:
. Decreased heart rate
. Normalization of blood pressure
. Quiet breathing
. Reduced stress hormones
. Reduced sweating
. Strengthened immunity
A build up of stress inhibits the
free flow of energy and information throughout our system. The more
stress we accumulate, the less efficient our bodies and minds
become. The deep rest gained during meditation helps the body to
support greater balance and vitality.
We spend most of our lives looking
outside ourselves for happiness, fulfilment and approval. Through
meditation, we turn our attention within to re-discover our Self,
which is the source of all creativity, peace and joy.
We practice meditation to enrich our
lives. We meditate to bring the memory of wholeness into our lives
so that we can enjoy bliss and wonder in every moment.
