4 minutes to save the world
By Kevin Leivers
This article takes about 4
minutes to read.
4 minutes to wake up
4 minutes to make a fresh start
4 minutes to make your life
really count
4 minutes to make a world of difference.
For the next 4 minutes read on
with an open mind and let your heart show you the way.
Do you feel helpless and
switched off when you hear about world issues such as poverty, famine, conflict
or global warming? Can you really make a difference to what seem like
overwhelming odds? In the context of a world that is ready for positive change
it is time to wake up and ask yourself what am I doing to help. Is it really
possible that my life can make a positive difference?
The old order is breaking down
and many people are frightened of what this will mean for them. We seek
direction and stability from our leaders, our political parties and from
business institutions, but they are falling short of our expectations.
Something is missing, but the
solution is much closer than you think. The missing link within yourself, your
family, your community and the world is YOU.
Mother Theresa said ‘Do
small things with great love’
Just like ripples in a pond that
travel great distances, subtle changes can be very powerful. Combined, these
ripples can create an irresistible force. We can start with ourselves first
using small steps, like creating peace within our own family or community. This
could entail healing old wounds simply by saying ‘I’m sorry’. Seemingly random
and unimportant gestures can be the catalyst for major change.
Imagine what you can achieve as
individuals, as a family, a community, a country and a world if you wake up and
see the possibilities in doing small things with great love.
In 4 minutes you can do amazing
things which seem insignificant and yet they can be incredibly powerful. You can
write a letter or an e mail to say thank you, offer a smile to a stranger or an
act of kindness. In 4 minutes you can be kind to ourselves by sitting quietly in
prayer and gratitude. Each of us can contribute to creating a powerful ripple
effect where hundreds and thousands of small actions combine to cause a tidal
wave of positive change.
To create positive
change we need to focus more clearly on what we want to create. This is a subtle
change but can make a powerful difference.
Current world events
are within your power to shape and mould. It is no longer acceptable to blame
the politicians to whom you give your power.
The world needs you to
wake up and take responsibility.
Mother Theresa said;
‘Do not wait for
leaders. Do it alone, person to person.’
The 4 minutes are
almost over, so what are you going to do? Go back to your old ways? Or maybe 4
minutes has woken you up to your true, powerful self. It seems like no time at
all, but this time can represent the transformation of your life, the tipping
point when you decided to wake up and make a difference. It can be a time you
look back on, when your life became richer and more fulfilling.
As positive change
gathers momentum around the world, wouldn’t you like to feel proud that you
really did make a difference?
‘Be the change you seek
in the world’
